Jon Richardson

Jon Richardson

Despite his relative young age and youthful looks, it seems as though Jon Richardson has been around for ages.

This can only mean that his brand of comedy has stuck in our minds and will continue to do so.

Jon dropped out of Bristol University in the early 2000s and after a year working as a chef he decided to go into stand up comedy.

He started well by winning his heat in the 2003 BBC New Talent Comedy Search and then reached the semi-finals of the Laughing Horse New Act of The Year competition in 2004.

That same year he was one of six acts to reach the final of the J20 Last Laugh Comedy Search.

In 2006, Jon accompanied Alan Carr on his 60 date nationwide tour and in 2007 took his first solo show to Edinburgh, where he was nominated for Best Newcomer.

A year later he was named Best Breakthrough Act at the Chortle Awards and in 2009 was nominated for the main prize at the Edinburgh Festival.

Jon Richardson is a archetypal modern comedian, blending stories with twists in the tail and revelations about his own life.

A self confessed sufferer of OCD, Jon's act is certainly clinical and he is not afraid of using his own obsessions and weaknesses as material.

He likes things tidy, won't tolerate misplaced cutlery and would be the first to admit he doesn't have a good track record with women.

But there's no pity here, as we are secretly very similar to Jon and will recognise ourselves in quite a lot in what he is talking about. Well, some of use.

The familiarity of Jon Richardson is probably down to his TV and radio work. He is a regular on the 100 Greatest... style programmes and has also appeared on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, The Bubble, Have I Got News For You and our very own Grouchy Young Men.

He has recently presented a programme about compulsions and habits on BBC3 called Different Like Me.

Until recently, Jon had presented a Sunday morning show on BBC 6Music, having taken over after Russell Howard left their previously shared show.

He recently took over as the Curator in Radio 4's The Museum Of Curiosity.

We all this work, and an obsession for cleanliness, Jon Richardson is a driven young comic who will undoubtedly be making us laugh for a long time to come.
